Brewery teams with distillery

Georgia’s Monday Night Brewing has announced that it has released a Scottish-style single malt whiskey, brewed and distilled in partnership with ASW Distillery, located less than five miles away from the brewery’s home in Atlanta.

The Brewers Journal is seeing more breweries either creating their own hard spirits such as gin, or working in collaborations. This is to take advantage of those beer drinkers in North America and the UK who favour craft breweries and who are now finding the same joy with craft distilleries.

The team at Monday Night brewed a mash rich in cherrywood-smoked malt – the same malt it uses in its Drafty Kilt beer. It was then transferred this to ASW, where it was distilled in traditional Scottish-style twin copper pot stills before being put into new American white oak quarter casks for aging.

Called Monday Night Whiskey – nicknamed ‘The Badger’ – it’s is being sold in the greater Atlanta area at a retail price of $59 (about £49) per 750ml bottle.
