Hawkshead Brewery hits million litre mark in 2016

Hawkshead has enjoyed a successful 12 months, confirming it brewed 10,169 hectolitres (1,016,900 litres) of beer in calendar year.

This marks an 8% increase over 2015, growth made possible by a £175,000 investment in extra fermentation capacity last spring.

65% of Hawkshead’s 2016 production was cask conditioned beer. Hawkshead owner Alex Brodie said the beer is unique to Britain and is “this country’s craft”.

Going forward in 2017, Hawkshead is rolling out its “Cask Session Series”, which involves the launch of new cask beer each month throughout the year.

For January it is “Session IPA”, a 4.7% beer that builds on the beer of the same name brewed in collaboration with a dozen craft brewers at Hawkshead’s July beer festival – Northern Craft.
