A new cask collaboration from leading producers Greene King and St Austell Brewery helping showcase British-grown ingredients.
King of the Castle is a 4.3% hop-forward pale ale and features Harlequin and Solero hops, as well a blend of the “finest East Anglian and Cornish malts”, resulting in a perfectly balanced, easy-drinking pale ale.
The new beer has been launched in time for Cask Ale Week and is the work of two breweries with nearly 400 years’ brewing heritage between them.
Commenting on the new release Jack Palmer, head brewer at Greene King, said the collaboration was the chance for him to use ingredients that were new to the brewery.
He explained: “King of the Castle is the product of two brewers, passionate about cask ale, working together to brew a delicious pale ale that we know will sell well in our pubs and beyond.
“The combination of hops provides a fruity and punchy flavour, perfectly complimented by the British malts. We’ve not brewed with Cornish Gold malt before – so we were delighted to have it here in Bury St Edmunds for the first time.
“It was great working with Georgina Young and the wider St Austell Brewery team to brew King of the Castle, a celebration of British ingredients.”
Georgina Young, brewing director at St Austell Brewery, added: “We’re incredibly proud of our 175-year brewing heritage and our long-standing commitment to championing cask ale. Collaborating with Greene King, another brewer that shares our passion for quality cask beer and the pubs that serve it, has been a real pleasure.
“King of the Castle brings together the very best of both breweries using Cornish Gold, malt produced exclusively for St Austell Brewery, resulting in a refreshing, flavour-packed pale ale that celebrates not only great brewing, but the importance of working together to showcase everything that makes British beer so special.”
King of the Castle will be available in a number of selected Greene King pubs and St Austell Brewery pubs, and to on trade customers in September and October.
