Salford-based brewer Hydes has launched Royal Hair Force, the November release in its year-long series of hairstyle-themed seasonal cask ales, using the new pint to spearhead a month-long fundraising drive for men’s health charity Movember.
Royal Hair Force is a 4.8% ABV American blonde ale perfectly crafted for the cooler autumn nights.
Described as combining a citrus punch with a sweet and spicy malt base, November’s brew is said to be perfect seasonal ale, it boasting a first-rate malt backbone and stacks of hop character, with American hops delivering a brisk citrus lift.
The new beer lands on bars this week across Hydes pubs throughout the North West and North Wales. Hydes will donate 10p from every pint of Royal Hair Force sold across its pub estate directly to Movember, with dedicated font wobblers installed on handpulls to highlight the initiative to customers at the bar.
To bolster the campaign, brewery colleagues based at the company’s head office are being encouraged to take part in the annual charity challenge by growing their own moustaches.
The head office effort is led by managing director Adam Mayers, finance director Simon Mollitt and head of operations Neil Lawrence, with more staff expected to pick up the razor-free challenge.
The pump clip artwork features a vintage moustached pilot, tying the November release directly to the familiar symbol of the Movember movement.
Adam Mayers, managing director of Hydes Brewery, said: “Royal Hair Force is a cracking pint for November, but more importantly it gives us a fantastic platform to support a vital cause.
“The moustached aviator on the pump clip immediately suggested a natural link to Movember, and we wanted to make sure the beer did some genuine good while it is on the bar.
“Pubs have always been great community hubs for raising money and rallying people behind worthy causes. We run fundraising events across our estate all year round, so linking our latest cask ale directly to men’s health felt like the right step.
“We are donating ten pence from every single pint poured, and several of us in the management team are putting our clean-shaven routines on hold throughout November to grow moustaches. It is all about starting conversations over a pint and getting behind an essential charity.”
