BrewDog CEO steps down

BrewDog CEO James Taylor has left his role at the Scottish brewery. Just under four months since the business was acquired by US-based Tilray Brands.

Taylor was appointed to the role at BrewDog last March. He took on the role at the same time as Lauren Carrol was appointed as COO. She will now help oversee day-to-day operations alongside figures from Tilray Brands.

A spokesperson for the company said: “James successfully led BrewDog through its ownership transition. We thank him for his contributions and wish him every success in the future.”

BrewDog’s global brand and 11 of its brewpubs was been acquired out of administration by Tilray for £33m in March.

Tilray, which is known in the beverage, cannabis and wellness industries, took on the sites in the UK and Ireland. This comprises UK-based brewing and distribution facilities (specifically, the brewery in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, and The Hop Hub, a national distribution centre in Motherwell, Lanarkshire), and its extensive brand portfolio, as well as eleven existing BrewDog retail units in the UK and Ireland.

Comment on Taylor and Carrol’s appointment last March, they said: “James Taylor has been an instrumental leader at BrewDog, steering the financial strategy and laying a strong foundation for profitable growth.

“His deep understanding of our business, coupled with his proven track record in operational excellence, makes him the ideal choice to guide BrewDog into its next chapter. I would also like to congratulate Lauren for her promotion, testament to her fantastic work and proven track record during her time at BrewDog.”
