Karl Strauss Brewing Company, San Diego’s first craft brewery, and Berkeley’s Fieldwork Brewing Co have collaborated on Field Trip Hazy IPA, a limited release collaboration.
Since igniting San Diego’s craft beer movement in 1989, Karl Strauss said it believed that the best beers come from the shared love of the craft.
Whether it’s experimenting with new ingredients, collaborating with fellow brewers, or introducing drinkers to something unexpected, Field Trip reflects the brave decisions that have always defined Karl Strauss and continues to drive independent craft beer forward.
At 6.7% ABV, Field Trip Hazy IPA strikes a balance between bold hop expression and exceptional drinkability. Brewed with Quantum Mosaic from Abstrax and Citra hops, it delivers intense aromas of tropical fruit, ripe berry, bright citrus, and layered dank hop character, all supported by a soft, pillowy mouthfeel and smooth finish, the company said.
“Collaborations have always been one of the best parts of craft beer,” said Karl Strauss Brewmaster Paul Segura.
“They’re an opportunity to learn from one another, experiment with new ingredients, and create something that neither brewery would have made on its own. Working with the talented team at Fieldwork made this beer especially rewarding.”
“When we look at craft beer, Karl Strauss is one of the breweries that helped lay the foundation for everything that came after,” added Fieldwork co-founder and brewmaster Alex Tweet.
“As San Diego’s first craft brewery, they’ve earned a legacy of innovation and quality that we have tremendous respect for. Collaborating on Field Trip was an opportunity to celebrate that history while creating something new together, and we couldn’t be more excited about the result.”
As part of their community commitment, Karl Strauss will donate $1 from every pint of Field Trip Hazy IPA sold on release day at its nine Southern California brewpubs, plus 1% of this beer’s California retail sales, to the Restaurants Care program.
This California Restaurant Association non-profit organization works to support and advance those at the heart of California’s food and beverage community during life’s most challenging moments. It’s one more way Karl Strauss Brewing Company continues to invest in the community that helps shape the craft beer scene.
