St Austell and Attic Brew Co partner on new pale ale

Birmingham-based brewery Attic has collaborated with Cornwall’s St Austell Brewery to launch Proper Intuition, a 4.5% hazy pale ale.

The beer, which is available in Waitrose stores nationwide from next month, celebrates the “character and heritage” of both breweries, combining their shared passion for brewing great beer with a love of bringing people together.

For Attic, the Waitrose launch marks another exciting milestone as the brewery continues to grow and introduce its beers to drinkers across the UK.

Oli Hurlow, Co-Founder of Attic, said: “We’re really excited to be working with St Austell Brewery on Proper Intuition.

“Proper Job and Intuition are two beers that have played a huge part in our respective breweries’ journeys, so bringing them together felt like a brilliant opportunity to create something new.

“We’re incredibly proud of our Birmingham roots, and it’s fantastic to see a beer created in collaboration with such an established Cornish brewery heading into Waitrose stores nationwide.”

Georgina Young, brewing director at St Austell Brewery, added: “Proper Job is an iconic beer that has been at the heart of our brewery for many years, so when the chance arose to collaborate with Attic, it felt like a natural fit.

“Intuition plays a similarly important role for Attic, making this a meeting of two much-loved flagship beers.

“It was great to work with Attic’s Head Brewer, Harry Gwilliam, on the recipe, combining our shared passion for brewing and innovation. Proper Intuition brings together the best of both breweries, creating a fresh, modern pale ale.”

In the summer Attic Brew Co announced it had acquired its Stirchley premises in a move to secure its future and aid the brewery’s growth plans.

The business, which is Birmingham’s largest independent brewery, has taken the industrial estate where its production facilities and taproom are based.

The deal was backed by a seven-figure funding package from NatWest, and the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II through fund manager Frontier Development Capital.

The 56,000 sq ft site is located off Mary Vale Road and is also home to a number of other independent businesses.
