New start-up aims to help brewers rescue own CO2

A zero-upfront-cost subscription model designed to stop independent drinks producers from wasting their own fermentation gas, creating a brand-new local recycling network that cuts bills from day one, has been launched.

Cork & Capture, based in Kent has launched a service that is said to provide reliable, subscription-based carbon recycling solutions designed specifically for independent wineries, breweries, cider and ethanol makers.

Founded by a carbon capture and storage (CCS) industry expert with a track record at global enterprises, Cork & Capture pairs heavy-duty, state-of-the-art recovery hardware with a local sharing network to help drinks producers eliminate purchased CO2, shield themselves from market shortages, and build a truly circular, local CO2 economy.

The inspiration for Cork & Capture came from a unique intersection of heavy industrial engineering and a passion for local independent drinks production.

The company’s founder and CEO possesses a deep-tech background in large-scale carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), having previously designed and managed complex CO2 infrastructure projects for some of the largest corporate energy and materials companies in the world, including Shell and Heidelberg Materials.

Offered as a simple monthly subscription that costs less than standard commercial gas bills, the service gives independent drinks producers CO2 independence, with zero upfront hardware costs (zero capex).

Historically, carbon capture equipment was reserved for multi-million-pound industrial operations. Cork & Capture changes the game by handling the entire process as a service.

The capture and purification systems connect smoothly to existing fermentation tanks, taking the raw gas and putting it through a dependable, multi-stage purification process.

The system cools, dries, compresses, and liquefies the gas, transforming it into 99.99% pure, beverage-grade liquid CO2. It is fed straight into on-site storage tanks, completely ready for cellaring, purging, or bottling.

Jemima Bruin-Bland, founder of Cork & Capture said: “Independent brewers and winemakers make a beautiful product, but they have been trapped in a broken system where they vent the very gas they need to buy back later—often while wrestling with the genuine safety dangers of unmanaged gas buildup in the cellar,” says the company.

“We set out to build a solution that makes absolute sense for the business owner. It had to be rock-solid reliable, it had to cost less than what they are paying right now, and it had to be completely hassle-free.

If you run a fermentation tank, you are already sitting on your own supply. We’re just here to help you catch it safely.”
