SALT team up with Seven Clean Seas to release national ocean-saving pale ale

Craft brewery, SALT, have teamed up with the world’s first plastic-offsetting service and Ocean Clean-Up organisation – Seven Clean Seas.

The collaboration beer, aims to combat the issue of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans, by directly donating a portion of the proceeds from every purchase.

This truly is, an Ocean Saving Pale Ale. To put it into perspective, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish. Scary right? Every single minute, a truck’s worth of plastic is dumped into the ocean and that’s only going to increase. So, SALT have teamed up with Seven Clean Seas to join the fight against plastic pollution and give ‘drinking like a fish’ a whole new meaning!

SALT’s aptly named – “The Final Straw” will be hitting over 500 Tesco stores this coming week and with every 4-pack sold, we’ll be funding the removal of 500g of plastic from our oceans. Imagine 50 x 500ml plastic bottles – that’s how much will be removed.

This will be followed by launching the collaboration in kegs to bars and pubs where every pint drank will result in 100g of plastic being removed from the world’s oceans. SALT have the lofty ambition of removing 40,000 kilograms of plastic over the next 12 months through the sale of this beer.

Managing director Nadir Zairi, said: “This collaboration, born out of friendship, aims to raise awareness for sustainability and in particular, the issue of plastic pollution in an approachable and accessible way. Beer is inherently social and both brands are hoping the collaboration sparks discussion over a chilled pint or can.

“This beer is particularly special because there is a true and important purpose to it, our goal is to help remove 40,000 kilos of plastic from the ocean through the sale of this beer”

So, when you buy a pint or a can of this beer, you are directly protecting the marine ecosystem, ensuring that the biodiversity that calls that ecosystem its home, is looked after. This will all be done by directly removing plastic from our oceans.

Founder and CEO of Seven Clean Seas – Tom Peacock-Nazil added: “At Seven Clean Seas, we approach the problem on multiple fronts, firstly, we build projects that remove plastic from our oceans, secondly, we work with indigenous communities to give waste management infrastructures to ensure that the plastic they use does not end up in the ocean in the first place, lastly we partner with businesses all over the world, to measure their plastic pollution and to help offset it.

Marine conservation and craft beer are two of my favourite things, SALT have created an incredible beer, so when you buy a can or a pint of this pale ale, you are already contributing towards the funding of plastic removal from the ocean, this really is an ocean saving pale ale.
