James Watt makes attempt to buy back BrewDog

James Watt, the former co-owner of BrewDog, has made an attempt to buy back the business.

BrewDog’s global brand and 11 of its brewpubs were acquired out of administration by Tilray Brands for £33m in March earlier this year.

In a statement published online, Watt said “we have formally submitted our offer to buy BrewDog”.

He said the offer was made by his new beer brand Second Best and sent to Tilray Brands.

Watt explained: “43,000 Equity Punks have already joined the bid. If we succeed, every registered punk gets their BrewDog equity back, for free.

“We’d also restore the Real Living Wage, bring back the team’s equity, and put the community back at the heart of the business.

“The punks and the crew built this company and BrewDog deserves to belong to them once more. Equity Punks, you backed me once. This time, I’m backing you. Hopefully, we can bring BrewDog home.”

Earlier this month, BrewDog CEO James Taylor left his role at the Scottish brewery. Just under four months since the business was acquired by US-based Tilray Brands.

Taylor was appointed to the role at BrewDog last March. He took on the role at the same time as Lauren Carrol was appointed as COO. She will now help oversee day-to-day operations alongside figures from Tilray Brands.
